Maternity Photos (One Year Later)

So this may be a little weird, but I realized I forgot to share with you guys my maternity photos! We only got them taken about a year ago... :) If you follow me on facebook, then you probably saw when I posted a link to them (you can see them here). But, I also want to share them on the ol' bloggy blog since this is my little diary. :) We used Katia Hudson (she also did Emerson's newborn photos) and she did an amazing job! We love how they turned out so much! Check her out if you are in the Centralia/Olympia area - she's awesome.

Nine Months

I'm so behind, that Emerson took her first solo steps tonight!!! She's currently 10 months old (almost 11 months). The most she took was six steps in a row! We'll see how long it takes for her to really get the hang of it and then she'll be unstoppable - and we'll be in trouble!

But anyways... I'm slowly catching up with my monthly posts. Emerson turned nine months on 5.25.14 and she was 19 lbs 12 oz and 29 1/2 inches! Still in the 98th percentile for height! Here's some of the fun stuff she was up to this month...

- She is quite the crawler and has really figured out how to move around quickly. She loves crawling after her puppies! She thinks they are hilarious and always giggles when she sees Brody across the room or when Buster gives her kisses.

- She's been sleeping well and we are officially on two naps a day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our routine has been going well - 7 o'clock bedtime and then she usually wakes up between 5:30-6:30. Not terrible (except on the weekends!).

- She pulls herself up on everything and started cruising around the couch. She likes walking around on her toy walker which is adorable! She is getting better at balancing and can lower herself down from standing.

- We went on our first camping trip as a family and met up with Zach's parents and sister at Lake Cushman. We planned on staying two nights, but this was our first overnight trip in five months (basically, since Christmas) and it was a little rough. We only ended up lasting one night since we were staying in the same camper as the rest of his family (cramped quarters!). Other than that, we had fun! She liked the campfire and the pack n' play finally got some good use since we couldn't really put her down in the dirt to crawl around. We went for a little hike and played lots of games. I would count it as an overall success for our first camping trip! Luckily we lived close enough where we could drive home easily. :)

- She increasingly became more of a squirmy wormy during this month and it got harder and harder to contain her! She's such a little busy body and wants to explore everything, especially places and things she shouldn't be touching. Like electrical outlets (baby proofing was in full effect!), dog bones, remote controls and cell phones, computer cords. You name it, she wants it! But don't worry, we baby proofed so she doesn't have access to these things (with the exception of some when we are with her).

- We started trying more finger foods - sausage, hash browns, taco meat, cheese, avocado (she didn't like the avocado). We are slowly trying to transition to eating more "real" foods. She's doing awesome with pureed foods - we are up to three pureed meals a day and she loves most everything except for bananas. She still doesn't like the texture (and maybe the taste too). She's still at five bottles a day.

- Zach had a month off between school and residency so we took a month off from daycare and she got in a lot of quality Daddy-Daughter time. I'm so glad they got to hang out so much before Zach starts in on his crazy hours!

- She's been babbling a TON! Lots and lots of Mamamamamama and Dadadadadada. She also likes Baba and Gaga too. :)

- She loves to flip through her books and pretend to read by pointing her pointer finger at the pages (probably copying me since I point at the words sometimes when I read to her)

- She's such a little ham and loves to make people laugh. When eating, she likes to have an audience and get a rise out of people. Such a goofball! I see a "class clown" superlative in her future!

- We went down to Centralia for a half day to a high school assembly where they honored my Dad. After 35 years in education (teacher, football coach, vice principal, principal), he retired! I made a sweet slideshow with pics of him throughout the years (complete with a pic of his awesome plaid jacket). My brother and mom were there too and it was lots of fun!

- We went on our first date night in months while Zach's parents watched Emerson. We went to a friend's wedding and it was fun to get dressed up and go out just the two of us!

- Every Friday, daycare has dress up days or themed days. This month there was a "50s Day" so Emerson wore her polka dots shirt and polka dot skirt! She was adorable.

- We celebrated my first Mother's Day by having both our immediate families over for a BBQ. Emerson and Zach let me sleep in and then woke me up with breakfast in bed. She (ahem, Zach) made eggs benedict, with coffee and fruit and it was delicious! Such a special day. The Friday before, daycare also had a "Moms and Muffins" morning breakfast where we did a cute little craft project (stamped both our hands in different colors on a piece of paper) and had you guessed it, muffins! It was really cute and I loved every bit of the corniness. :)

And now for some pictures :)

Eight Months

She's ten months old now, so I guess that means I should probably do an 8 month update! I'm so behind... I should have known this was inevitable!

- She started crawling a ton! She finally got the hang of it and no one can stop her now!

- Says "Dada" quite a bit these days. Definitely a Daddy's girl!

- She "cackles" a lot more than actual laughing - it's so funny. It's these little "haha" "hahas" and it's so stinking cute.

- She got her two bottom teeth! Teething was a b*$%h though. She got a fever and was super fussy and not sleeping well. Ugh it sucks. Before she started teething, I wondered what it would be like and now I know - you will know when you are going through it! Plus, she had a cold during this time too, which meant she was up at 3 and 4 am again. Luckily, once the teeth broke through and the fever broke, it was business as usual.

- She just wants to be walking! Pulls herself up on everything - us, the couch, her toys, the cabinets. I think she'll be walking before she's a year old! Eeek!

- She was very clingy to Mama this month (which I didn't mind at all). Probably because of the teething, but I wasn't complaining! Lots of hugs and snuggles and snot wipes on my shoulder. :)

- We had gotten these Princess Little People a while ago and finally broke them out. She LOVES them. They are the perfect size for her to grip and munch on, but not small enough for her to choke on or swallow. They are the best!

- A favorite toy theses days is the Leap Frog play table. She loves the sounds and music. Her favorite is this little button she found - we got it second hand, so there used to be door that opened and closed and activated this button. The door is gone but she somehow found the button (I hadn't even noticed it at all) and loves pushing it with her pointer finger. She also loves her sit and stand play thingy.

- Her eczema continued... after about a month we took her to the doctor and got a prescription. The doctor also suggested hydrocortisone (non-prescription) which we tried first and worked like a charm! We used as sparingly as possibly and it helped clear things up tremendously (luckily we didn't have to use the prescription). We also paired that with Aveeno Baby Eczema Lotion and her eczema cleared up so well. We've been using the same routine for a while now and it's stayed clear too! Thank goodness.

- Em's eating lots of pureed foods! Peas, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes (she likes them now), squash (still a fave), bananas, applesauce, peaches, blueberries (although we stopped with the peaches and blueberries to see if it affected the eczema). She loves it all! She also loves cheerios and sweet potato puffs. She's getting better at using her sippy cup and likes to drink her water. Although, most times she ends up trying to drink from the bottom of the cup. :)

- She loves daycare and is making friends! So cute. Her teachers love her too, and say she is always smiley and trying to get a rise out of everyone and make them laugh. Such a little ham.

- She started moving towards a two nap a day schedule. It was a little painful at times - we'd make it to 4:30-5:00 with only two naps and then she'd start to get fussy. We had a couple rough nights with little cat naps (sometimes more than little) that started at 5 and then bedtime at 7... but for the most part, two longer naps is now the norm.

- There's a little hair growing on top of that beautiful round head! She's got some light brown and very straight hair sprouting!

- I love her eyes. She's got the most beautiful eyes and the longest lashes. Her eyes are hazel now (like Mama) and she definitely still "smiles with her eyes."

- She's in 9-12 month clothes (mostly 12 month) mostly because of how tall she is!

- We are working on our clapping and waving! She's a pretty quick study and loves to clap and is kind of getting the hang of waving bye bye. It's pretty much adorable.

- Like most babies, Peekaboo is her new favorite game. Her giggle is contagious and my favorite sound in the whole wide world.

- She took her first grocery store outing riding in the cart like a big girl and loved it. So much to look and we made it through the whole store with minor twisting and turning at the end. We also went to Happy Hour with some of Mama's friends, which was fun, but exhausting for Mama! So much movement!

- We made it through busy season (barely). I still can't believe I did it. Of course, with the help of my awesome husband and my Mom watching Em a couple days a week (and cleaning my house at times too - thanks Mom!). It was NOT fun though... Luckily, it was the same as usual for Emerson except for Saturdays since I had to go into the office. But during the week I still made it priority to hang out with her at our regularly scheduled time after work. I needed that time to survive! Then after she went down for the night at 7-7:30, I would eat a quick dinner and back to work... like I said, NOT fun. :(

- We celebrated Easter by having both our families over to our house for brunch. Emerson got to meet her Great Grandma Mary for the first time and they both had a lot of fun getting to know each other. She especially loved doing "baby workouts" on Great Grandmas walker! She played with bubbles and got loved on by the whole family. Spoiled little girl, but so loved. She is very very lucky to have such an awesome family!

- Her favorite book is Good Morning Good Night and it's a touch and feel book. She loves feeling the animal fur and even pretends to "read" but using her pointer finger to point at the pages. She even knows what "dog" and cat" mean now too!

- Auntie Jenn and Brian babysat for the first time so we could go to Zach's end of the year bowling night with his classmates. It was a nice break to get out just the two of us! Unfortunately, not so nice for Jenn and Brian since Em cried most of the time we were gone!

- She started standing up in her crib! Another fun adventure - luckily we had already lowered the crib and added the mesh crib liner.

- I think I forgot to mention this in her 7 Month post, but we got her first official "school" pictures back from daycare! They were taken when she was around 6 Months old. She's so stinkin adorable! She's not exactly smiling in any, but it's still pretty cute. :)

And now, time for some pictures! :)

Seven Months

Time for a seven month update! I told you I was slooooowwwwwly catching up! Here it is!

- Rolling back and forth easily! Doesn't stay on her tummy for long!

- Sitting up so well and reaching for things way out of reach.

- Almost crawling... she really wants to and is pushing up really high when on her tummy.

- Loves her exersaucer and is constantly bouncing and stepping around in there!

- Em is becoming more and more interactive and responsive to her name and when we talk to her.

- She loves her puppies - she laughs at them and watches them all around the room.

- We started solids right at six months and have been trying all sorts of new things! She loves peas, but hated sweet potatoes at first! I had heard that some times they need to try something over 8 times before they like it so we kept trying (even if it was just a couple of bites at a time) and now she loves them! It must have been the texture at first or something? She also tried: green beans, squash (her favorite), carrots, bananas, pears, applesauce, and peaches (not her favorite). At first we were letting her "feed herself" (or at least hold on to the spoon while we guided into her mouth) but that turned out to be very very messy and take for.ev.er. So, we kind of "broke" her of that and got in a good rhythm where we just shovel it in her mouth. :) Much easier and cleaner!

- She started getting pretty bad eczema on her neck creases, elbows, back of her knees, and ankles and a little bit on her face around her mouth. From what I read, those are the most common places babies get it. We started applying aquaphor, vaseline, lotion (we tried everything to see what worked the best) every night and every morning. The eczema stuck around though... unfortunately. Luckily, it didn't seem to bother her and she wasn't scratching it.

- Em loves when her Gramma Vonnie and Auntie BB watch her every week. They have so much fun and get their "Emerson Fix" and she loves playing with them!

- Lots of moving and rolling everywhere. Not quite crawling, but figuring out how to move around a lot by rolling different directions!

- Always smiling and giggling and is so talkative, exploring different sounds of her voice.

- She lights up when her Daddy enters the room. There's something so special about the Daddy-Daughter relationship. :)

- Em does really well in large loud groups of people. We went to Auntie BB's birthday dinner at a loud restaurant. There were probably 15 people in our party and Em got passed around to everyone. She had no problem and just continued being a cutie and charming everyone with her funny little laugh "ha ha" "ha ha". :)

- Her favorite book at the moment is Good Morning Good Night which is a touch and feel book. She loves it when we say "Kitties go MEOW!" "Doggies go WOOF WOOF!"

- She loves playing Peekabo and is fascinated with Mommy's big toes (for some reason they are very fascinating).

- Always wants to stand up when we hold her and started "hugging" us when we pick her up.

- Loves to bite and suck on our chins! Oh, and giving open mouth kisses.

- She's been sleeping really well. She now sleeps on her tummy all the time and moves around a lot in her crib. We put up a crib guard (one of the mesh ones) so her limbs wouldn't get stuck in the crib!

- Great Grandma Hallie came to visit for a couple days with Gramma Vonnie and had a great time watching her!

- Her six month shots were a doozy. They asked if we wanted to do them all at once, or come back another day to finish them up. This time we had the four vaccination shots we had at 2 and 4 months and then an additional flue shot vaccine. Bad idea. #mommyfail. She got a fever that night and was super fussy and was not feeling well. Poor girl was not reacting well to all those shots at once. :( Luckily she was feeling better the next day. I don't like have my girl sick!

- We had some six month photos taken of Em! See them all right here!\

- And finally, she said MAMA! And I totally WIN! :) Sorry Zach, I don't care if it was because she was possibly teething and Mmmmmmma was the sound she was making. It. Still. Counts!

Em's just growing and developing so much these days! It's so fun to watch her grow up and learn new things all the time. We love her so much!
